Qld: AgForce calls on government to intervene on petrol price

A leading rural lobby group says the federal government should stop washing its hands
of the fuel issue and intervene on spiralling petrol prices.

AgForce grains president TERRY SHARP says the federal government has been picking up
three cents a litre of fuel excise since July 1 when the GST was introduced.

He says the money is largely going into consolidated revenue when it should be going
into the pockets of motorists.

Mr SHARP says the federal government ultimately has a fair degree of control over the
price Australians pay for fuel.

He says Australians, both those in business and private individuals, were having difficulty
in affording the current cost of fuel and the federal government must take responsibility.
